Here at St. Anthony's we continue the work of evangelization and sanctification begun by our founder and still true head: Our Lord Jesus Christ. We are Catholic as we are part of a universal Church, over one-billion strong. While Christ remains the true head, we also acknowledge His vicar on earth, the Bishop of Rome, our Holy Father, Pope Francis. We are also part of the local Church of Rockville Centre, and its spritual leader, the Most Reverend John Barres, Bishop of Rockville Centre. So, we are a proud Catholic parish.
The Society of Jesus was founded almost 500 years ago by St. Ignatius of Loyola with a small but dedicated group of first companions. Central to St. Ignatius' vision was teaching the idea of spiritual discernment to all who sought it-priests or people, rich or poor. He also wanted people to be able to find our God's wonderful presence in all things. His primary means to accomplish this task wa the Spirtual Excercises. As a Jesuit parish, the spirituality of St. Ignatius and his Excecises shape all that we do, whether it be preaching, spiritual direction or the call to seek justice in the world. St. Ignatius wanted us all to commit ourselves competely and selflessly to God. Here in the most famous prayer from the Spiritual Excecises, a good summary of the spirtuality we hope to convey as a parish.
Take Lord, and receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding, and my entire will, all that I have and possess. Thou hast given all to me. To Thee, O Lord, I return it. All is Thine, dispose of it wholly according to Thy will. Give me Thy love and thy grace, for this is sufficient for me.
